D
ear Los Cabos Humane Society Supporter,

We would like to share some things we're really excited about through the first 4 months of our first year as the combined Los Cabos Humane Society serving the communities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

In the first four months of this year we've sterilized over 1000 animals!!!  That is above our goal for the year and we are still within our budget!  We’ve already had two 3-4 day clinics with visiting veterinarians from Mexico, the U.S. and Canada and we expect to have several more throughout the year.  Can you imagine if we keep on pace and can hit 4000?  This is something we always dreamed about doing.

Our new full time vet, Alan Ortiz, is saving us both money and time and is working out wonderfully.  He is a graduate of one of the first classes out of the recently opened vet school in La Paz.  Besides youthful enthusiasm, his connections with his classmates have been wonderful.  One of his classmates works in the San Lucas Health Department office and has put together a children's educational flyer that he is now distributing through the Centro de Salud and we are using it in our workshops and classroom visits as well.

We're working with Sarahuaro in San Lucas and LigaMAC in San Jose on education and have been able to do a class with over 80 women in San Lucas on cats & dogs, their care and the importance of sterilizing and vaccinating them.  We've gotten many, many followup appointments out of this work.  We are also present at LigaMAC's Dispensa Day every other Wednesday doing our presentation and setting up appointments for sterilizations.  The Humane Society van is running non-stop and we're looking for funds or a donation of another!

In partnership with LigaMAC, we've sponsored two students from Colorado Rocky Mountain School that is attended by the son one of our long time supporters, Gloria Greene.  Two students have come down for three weeks and are working with our organizations as part of their senior project this summer.  They have also volunteered with Baja S.A.F.E.  This project something they must successfully complete in order to graduate and we’re excited to have them with us.

We are really excited and proud of the way our emphasis on education seems to really be working and growing quickly.
We've set the new date for Dog Day Afternoon, our afternoon of fabulous food at Flora Farm.  This year it will be November 21st.  We're hoping more people will be in town since we're now the Sunday before Thanksgiving.  We’ve also set the date for our formal evening of cocktails and entertainment, Dressed to the K9s on December 10th.  Mark these dates on your calendar and watch the newsletter and our website for more information.

The Center is in need of dog walkers. If you are in town this summer please get in touch with them.  It is only 3 hours a week from your schedule but it is something that all of our dogs look forward to.  It’s a great way to get a little exercise while putting a wag in someone’s tail!

As always, we can’t do this without you, our volunteers and donors.  From the bottom of our furry hearts, THANK YOU for your continued support.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors
